A lorry fire has left one lane closed on the A38 northbound between Kingsway Island and Markeaton Island.

Firefighters from Kingsway and Nottingham Road fire stations dealt with the blaze at 5am this morning.

The whole road was closed initially but one lane reopened at about 5.45am.

The fire is now out and a spokeswoman for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said there were no injuries.

However, the incident has caused some damage to the road.

Shortly before 7am Highways England said repairs may be needed before the road can be fully reopened.
