Welcome to the complete listing of Nottinghamshire's Top 200 Companies 2017, ranked by turnover.
Together, the firms featured in these rankings have a joint turnover of £35.78 billion and employ 225,000 people across Nottinghamshire, the UK and world.
Six of them now bring in revenue exceeding £1 billion and, with several others creeping towards that milestone, that number could soon rise.
For the third year running, Boots UK has taken the top spot with a turnover of almost £12 billion.
Now part of Walgreens Boots Alliance, based in Chicago, following a merger with US drug store giant Walgreens in 2014, Boots UK's registered office in its Nottingham headquarters, where 8,000 people are employed.
Pendragon, the huge car retailer that owns the dealership brands Evans Halshaw and Stratstone, is once again runner-up with a turnover of £4.45 billion and more than 9,600 staff.
Retailers Sports Direct - which has an NG postcode despite a Derbyshire address in Shirebrook - and Wilko are among the £1 billion firms at the top of the list, which also features Experian, Capital One and Center Parcs.
Derby Management School, part of the University of Derby, compiled the list.
How do companies qualify for the Top 200 list?
Companies are eligible for inclusion in the Top 200 if they are active during the applicable period (i.e. not in receivership or dormant), their registered office is located in Nottinghamshire and they report independent accounts to Companies House.
The applicable period is July 1, 2015, to June 30, 2016.
This means that companies with significant operations in the county but with the registered offices located outside of Nottinghamshire are excluded. On the other hand, subsidiaries whose parent company is based outside the county can be included as long as they report separate accounts.
Some of the companies featured sit on the very edges of Nottinghamshire and into Derbyshire and Leicestershire.
For that reason, we have included firms that either have an address in the county or an NG postcode.
