Nottingham-based John Pye Auctions has announced that its hub in Marchington, Staffordshire, has had its biggest month on record with record numbers of items sold, bids taken and footfall on viewing days.
During the month of August, the UK’s largest auctioneer saw over 30,000 items sold and 19,530 online bids made at its Marchington hub.
On August bank holiday Monday alone, over 2,000 customers visited the hub; a 50% increase on non-bank holiday viewing days.
Auctions included a range of items including; TV’s, sofas, mobile phones, home appliances, children’s toys, watches and jewellery, vehicles with the most popular items sold including white goods, sofas and home furnishings.
Throughout August, the hub held 29 auctions, a 30% increase in the number of auctions that took place in August in 2016. Auctions were across the firm’s retail, luxury and vehicle divisions.
The auctioneer announced earlier this year that it opened a dedicated 30,000 sq ft vehicle showroom at its Marchington hub.
Associate director and head of national retail facilities, Steve Anderson, said: “It’s absolutely fantastic to be celebrating this achievement. Marchington is the flagship site within our network and the team here have worked so incredibly hard to make this happen.
“As well as browsing the salerooms, customers come here to enjoy our onsite coffee lounge which we introduced to give our customers a place to sit, relax and consider their potential purchases, offering the customer a social shopping experience. During the bank holiday weekend, the coffee lounge was busier than it has ever been.
“This bumper month is a reflection of the ever-growing demand from consumers who want to purchase goods via an online auction and cements John Pye Auctions’ place at the forefront of UK auction industry.”
