Police hand ticket to driver who caused A38 delays 'because they ran out of fuel'

A driver who police said was behind delays on the A38 this morning has been given a ticket for "causing an unnecessary obstruction".

Derbyshire police’s roads unit said the motorist ran out of fuel near the Coxbench turn-off before pulling over to the side of the road.

Traffic company Inrix said there was “very slow traffic” on the southbound side of the carriageway from about 8.25am.

Highways England predicted the traffic problems would be over by 8.45am.

An officer from the roads policing unit said they had given the driver, who was pulled over in lane two, a ticket for causing the "obstruction".

They wrote on Twitter: “Delays #A38 SB Coxbench due to this driver running out of fuel. Lane 2 closed & one ticket for causing an unnecessary obstruction #Highways”
