Shocking photos show aftermath of machete attack on couple

These shocking photos show the aftermath of an incident where a couple were brutally attacked by a gang of thugs armed with machetes and metal bars.

They show the blood of a 27-year-old man who was attacked when he opened the door of his flat on Cowslip Meadow,Draycott, to find three men.

Police are investigating the incident which happened at 10.30pm on Friday, September 9. The man and his pregnant girlfriend were enjoying a takeaway in their flat when they heard a tapping on the front door. After looking through his spy hole a couple of times, when there was nobody there, he opened the door and was struck with a metal pole.

The couple had to cower behind a door in their living room before the gang fled after demanding drugs and money.

The man, who does not want to be identified, said: "I want these photographs to show just how serious this was and how much blood I lost as a result of what happened to me. It's all up the walls and on the doors. It was very serious and I still don't know how we got out of it alive.

"If anybody knows who these people are, then I'd please urge them to contact the police. We went through a terrible time that night. We're never, ever, going back there again. We're still in a horrible state of shock. We cannot understand why anybody would want to do this. It's horrendous. We're gutted, this was our family home. We were going to start a family here. It's all gone, we cannot ever come back."

The gang tried to smash their way through the living room door several times. The man said he pointed out to them that a cot was in the next room because his girlfriend was expecting a child in a few months time.

A Derbyshire police spokesman said one 17-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
