A Derbyshire man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm.
The Liverpool Echo reported that officers from Merseyside police were called to the West Kirby area of Liverpool after a motorist said they had been threatened by a man with a handgun following a "brief verbal dispute".
The force confirmed that they had arrested a 51-year-old man from the Derbyshire area.
A spokesman for Merseyside police said: "The man was arrested and a car was searched, during which a suspected air weapon was seized. However, due to concerns about a number of other items in the car, a cordon was put in place as a precaution while specialist search officers were called.
"Further searches are being carried out and, as a precaution, residents living nearby have been advised to stay indoors."
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was also called as a "precaution".
