A 22-year-old Derbyshire man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder in an alleged hit-and-run incident in Ripley.
Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard how Jake Greenhalgh, 22, of Down Meadow, Heage, allegedly collided into pedestrian Soltan Habchi, 27, in Derby Road, at around 2am on Saturday, October 21.
Police closed a 200m stretch of the road while they carried out their investigations on Saturday and the cordon was lifted at around 10.15am.
Prosecuting solicitor Lynn Bickley told the hearing that Mr Habchi is in intensive care on a ventilator with a torn coronary artery, multiple fractures to both legs and arms and that he could possibly lose an eye.
Two other people were arrested in connection with the incident and have been released on bail.
Greenhalgh was remanded in custody and the case was committed for a further hearing at Derby Crown Court on November 23.
