A 22-year-old man charged with attempted murder has been remanded in custody after appearing in court.
Jake Greenhalgh has been charged in connection with an alleged hit-and-run in Ripley in the early hours of Saturday (October 21).
He appeared before magistrates in Chesterfield on Thursday (October 26), when the court heard he allegedly collided with pedestrian Soltan Habchi in Derby Road.
Prosecuting solicitor Lynn Bickley told the hearing that Mr Habchi, 27, is in intensive care on a ventilator with a torn coronary artery, multiple fractures to both legs and arms and that he could possibly lose an eye.
According to the Derby Telegraph, two other people were arrested in connection with the incident and have been released on bail.
Greenhalgh, of Down Meadow, Heage, was remanded in custody and the case was committed for a further hearing at Derby Crown Court on November 23.
