Fly-tippers have dumped fridges at a local beauty spot – which has been branded a "despicable" act.

Richard Newbold, 43, from Cropwell Bishop, noticed the dumped fridges at 8am this morning (Saturday, October 28).

The location is known locally as Old Fosse Way near Grantham Canal.

He told the Post: "I think it is awful. Langar tip was closed about three years ago and there has been a lot more fly-tipping around the area since then.

"This is not household waste but it’s from a business. You can’t see it from the village but a lot of people use that area from Cotgrave and Bingham to go for a walk.

"In total, there about 20 fridges."

Grantham Canal Society, which drives the restoration of the canal, has called the act "despicable."

It says the Canal and River Trust will now have to pick up the cost of removing it.

No one was available from the Canal and River Trust for a comment.
