A tennis lover from Belper is hoping to raise funds and a smile with a cheeky calendar produced to help the fight against Alzheimer's disease.

Inspired by the celebrated Calendar Girls film, Jo Williams gathered together sporty friends who had the balls to pose naked to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society.

Of course, one of the pictures harks back to the famous Athena tennis girl image of the 1970s.

The themed 2018 calendar, entitled Anyone for Tennis, shows members of Belper Meadows Tennis Club as you've never seen them before. Probably.

The pictures were taken at the tennis club on Christchurch Meadows, off Bridge Street, in Belper, by award-winning photographers Ashley Franklin and Paul Mellor. The calendar was printed courtesy of the Irongate Group, in Derby.

An attempt to drive sales of the calendar via a Facebook promotion failed as it breached the site's nudity guidelines.

Jo has first-hand experience of the devastating effects of Alzheimer's disease as her mother suffered from the disease.

Jo said: "I realised my mother was one of 850,000 people with dementia in the UK and then I read that over 200,000 will develop dementia in the next year… that’s one every three minutes.

"If that’s not distressing enough, I found that dementia research is desperately underfunded.

"I thought the best way to raise awareness and funds was to raise a smile."

China’s huge Tiangong-1 space station is on course to re-enter our planet’s atmosphere and come crashing back down anywhere on the surface of the planet. This could result in debris pieces weighing up to 100 kilograms raining down anywhere on the planet. China recently admitted to losing control of the craft entirely in 2016. Now they predict that the orbiting station will land sometime late this year or early next year.
