A man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries following a serious assault in Chaddesden.
Police were called to the Racecourse, off Berwick Avenue, at 11pm last night (Tuesday) and arrived to see a man with serious injuries.
Part of the Racecourse has been cordoned off this morning close to Derwent Community Primary School - though the school has not been affected in anyway.
A police statement reads: "Officers have launched an investigation after a man was left with life-threatening injuries.
"We were called last night at 11pm to reports of an assault on Race Course Park off of Berwick Avenue, Chaddesden.
"When officers arrived a man was found with life threatening injuries and was taken to the Queens Medical Centre where he remains in a critical condition.
"It is thought that the man’s attacker was known to him."
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
