The Sun newspaper is poking a little fun at Nottingham ahead of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s visit to the city on December 1.

In a new photo feature on the Royal couple following the announcement of their engagement on November 27, the newspaper published a series of photos of Harry and Meghan featuring spoof speech and thought bubbles.

Alongside several photos of the couple, the newspaper included their own thought and speech bubbles where they joked about what the couple were really thinking as well as what Meghan would ask The Sun’s Agony Aunt Deidre Sander.

In one image featured in the November 30 issue of the newspaper, Harry and Meghan could be seen sitting together at the Invictus Games earlier this year, where the prince told the Suits actress in his speech bubble, “See I told you royal duties could be fun,” before his thought bubble adds, “I’ll tell her about Nottingham later.”

On a photo of the couple during their first official interview as a couple with BBC correspondent Mishal Husain earlier this week, the newspaper then joked about Meghan revealing that she didn’t know too much about the Royal Family before meeting her husband-to-be.

“I’m from the States, I didn’t know much about him or what it meant to be in the Royal Family,” Meghan’s speech bubble said, to which Harry’s speech bubble added, “I tried to tell you.”

Poking a little fun at Nottingham and the couple’s impending first official royal visit to the city together, Harry then had a thought bubble that read, “But not too much as you would have run a mile. Still haven’t mentioned Nottingham yet…”

Understandably, not all readers found the jab so funny, as one Twitter user hit back, “Ok so what’s wrong with Nottingham?”

But it wasn’t all bad, as Meghan’s pretend letter to The Sun’s Agony Aunt Deidre Sander also mentioned the city but was a little more complimentary.

“I’m heading to Nottingham tomorrow with Harry to meet some of the real people he’s been telling me about,” the spoof letter from the US actress read. “I’ve no idea where that is, but as we live in Nottingham Cottage, I’m guessing there’s something special about the place.”
