A38 closed in both directions at Mickleover due to police incident

Police have blocked multiple exits to the A38 due to an incident and are currently diverting traffic.

Several police vehicles have been seen around the area which is just off Kingsway Island and is one of Derby’s busiest roads.

A police officer with a torch is at the scene diverting traffic away from the sliproad at the roundabout outise the Royal Derby Hospital.

Police are blocking the exit to Mickleover as well as the exit to the A38 southbound.

Derbyshire Roads Police have said the A38 northbound from Mickleover is also closed due to a male on the wrong side of Uttoxeter Road Bridge.

A number of police vehicles are also blocking the exit to Mickleover as well as the exit to Littleover.

One of our reporters has seen four other police vehicles go down the A38 past the blocked road.

There is standstill traffic on the A38 northbound as a result of the incident which is backing up between Mickleover and Kingsway Island.

There have been reports on Twitter of people sat in traffic for over half an hour due to the incident.

Highways England have said that it is a "police-led incident" and are asking drivers to be patient.

The cause of the incident is currently unknown and we have reached out to Derbyshire police to comment on why the roads are cordoned off.
