Tram crash on University Boulevard: What we know so far

There is major disruption in the city this afternoon after a crash between a tram and van in University Boulevard.

The A6005 road is closed in both directions for its entire length.

A number of people on the tram have been injured.

Traffic is being diverted, with trams and buses facing long delays.

What happened?

A van and a tram collided in University Boulevard at around 2.45pm.

A few people on the tram have minor injuries, but no serious injuries have been reported. The van driver also has sustained no injuries.

Where has the road been closed?

University Boulevard is closed in both directions all the way from the A52 Clifton Boulevard to Woodside Road.

Where is traffic being diverted?

Traffic is being taken along the A52 Clifton Boulevard, the A52 Derby Road, and Woodside Road.

How are trams affected?

There are no services along University Boulevard at all.

For passengers trying to get between the NG2 stop (to the east of Clifton Boulevard)and the University Boulevard stop, the NCT orange line number 36 and navy line number 49 buses are currently accepting tram tickets.

For all passengers travelling between University Boulevard and Toton Lane, there is a Tram Shuttle service serving all those stops.

Trains are also accepting tram tickets from Beeston train station to Nottingham train station.

Disruption is expected until 11pm.

How are buses affected?

While Nottingham City Transport doesn’t go along University Boulevard, its services are affected because of the diversion

There are severe delays on Orange 34, 35, 36; Navy 48, 49 and Grey 53 which will last until at least 8pm.

Orange 36 is diverted between Beeston Interchange and Priory Roundabout. Buses to City are diverted Wollaton Road and Dennis Avenue. Buses from City are diverted via Derby Road to The Nurseryman then Wollaton Road. The following stops are not being served:

  • City Road
  • Marlborough Road
  • Humber Road
  • Salthouse Lane
  • Uni West Gate
  • Manton Crescent
  • Hathern Green
  • Derby Road (on Woodside Road, towards Beeston)
  • Winster Close
  • Resource Centre
  • Jessamine Court

Navy 49 is also running between City and Clifton Bridge North only. The following stops are not being served:

  • Bull Close Road
  • Power League
  • D90
  • D82
  • B Road
  • Fifth Avenue

Meanwhile Trentbarton is diverting its services down Woodside Road, Priory Island & QMC in both directions.

It says: "This will cause significant delays as we approach rush hour, so please be aware."
