Police have warned a gang involved in a reported stabbing of a teenage boy in Alvaston they are hunting them down.

Cops say the 15-year-old was riding along a jitty that leads from a canal path to Avonmouth Drive at 6pm yesterday when he felt a blow to his back.

Initially the boy thought he had been punched but officers say he was cut with a sharp object. The teenager was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham where he required two stitches and was discharged later that evening. According to reports on social media the victim was stabbed.

Greg Hunt, Inspector for Derby East - which covers Alvaston - said the force needed the help of the public in their investigation.

He said: "I am devastated for the member of the public who has been injured. This will be thoroughly investigated.

"We're really keen to hear from members of the public on this. I would urge anybody with information or anybody who witnessed this incident to get in contact with us.
