'No internet till JANUARY' in one part of Derby

Customers in one area of Derby facing a Christmas without internet and broadband services claim it could ruin the festive season for their children.

Several streets in Allenton are reporting being without services from Sky since last Wednesday.

Among them is Jason Bull, who says that his son, and other children in the area, will not be able to use any Christmas presents which rely on internet technology to work.

He said: “The system first went down on Wednesday and when I rang up about the problem, I was told it was a configuration problem and would be back up the following day.

“Nothing has happened and now when I ring up, I am being told it is a BT problem and that it is unlikely that it will be mended before January now. I have tried to transfer to another provider but it seems everyone else is full and cannot take more customers. It’s disgusting.”

Another Sky customer, Nicola Eley, of Buchan Street, is also annoyed about the situation after being told it would be resolved fairly quickly but has now been told nothing will be mended this side of the new year.

She said: “My daughter relies on the internet for her job so that has not been good for her in the past few days.

“Everyone seems to be blaming everyone else for the problem. I don’t care whose fault it is, I just want to see it mended as soon as possible.”

There is no explanation about the loss of internet service on the Sky website which shows areas where there are outages across the country.

But it does say: “Sorry a phone mast in this area isn't working. This means your service might come and go until we fix it.”

The Derby Telegraph has been unable to contact anyone at Sky or BT to find out when the work would be completed.
