Motorists are facing a week of “traffic chaos” due to roadworks on a major route into a Derby suburb.
These will be in place between house numbers 57 and 66 until Wednesday, January 17.
During the closure, energy firm Fulcrum Pipelines Limited will dig up the carriageway and lay new gas pipes.
Residents living nearby say the roadworks will cause “mayhem” for rush hour commuters.
Linda Hargreaves, of Brackensdale Avenue, said: “This is a very busy road during rush hour and the temporary lights are going to be a nuisance to anyone who wants to join the A38.
“I think it’s going to be a pain for all of us who live here too as we won’t be able to get off our drives. The buses will be delayed too.”
A neighbour, who did not wish to be named, added: “The roadworks will certainly cause traffic chaos. It won’t be a fun period but at least they are only here for a week.”
