If you are looking to buy a property but are short of cash, these property sales will give you an idea of what you can buy in and around Derby if you have no more than £60,000 to spend.

The lowest rung on Derby's property ladder in recent weeks was a flat on the edge of the city centre which sold for £39,950.

The flat is at Alkmund Court, in Edward Street, just behind St Helen's House, off Duffield Road and within a few minutes' walk of the Cathedral Quarter.

In Alvaston, another flat sold for £44,000. The Mondello Drive property is off Shardlow Road and, according to property website Zoopla, monthly total running costs, including utility bills, amount to under £300 - this assumes a mortgage of £26,400 with monthly costs of £101.

For £44,000, the buyer got a first-floor bedsit, with a combined lounge and bedroom, a kitchen, a built-in wardrobe and a shower room.

Digging a little bit deeper, a first-time buyer or buy-to-let investor could get a terraced house in Ilkeston for £60,000. A house in Newdigate Street, sold for that sum in November 2017.
