Arrest after car reported stolen with 11-year-old girl inside

Police have revealed that a man has been arrested in Derbyshire following reports that a car was stolen from Mansfield with an 11-year-old girl inside.

Nottinghamshire police said a man was detained after a collision near Palterton, Chesterfield.

It followed reports that a car had been stolen at 8.45pm on Monday in West Hill Drive, Mansfield, with an 11-year-old girl inside.

Police said a man had been detained at around 12.30am and that the child was “safe and well”.

In a statement, a spokesman for the force said: "A man's been arrested after a car was reported stolen in Mansfield with an 11-year-old girl inside.

"Officers were called to West Hill Drive at around 8.45pm on Monday.

"The 33-year-old man was arrested shortly afterwards following a collision near Palterton.

"The child is safe and well."
