Ashbourne Royal Shrovetide Football 2018 was nothing short of action-packed yesterday despite a slow start to the day.

Hundreds turned up and to the annual event which started at 2pm as the rain hammered down.

It was initially thought it would be a goalless day, especially after the ball hadn't been seen for more than an hour.

However, Tom Boulton-Lear turned it all around and scored at Clifton for the Down'Ards just before 9pm.

Will the Up'Ards fight back? We will be providing live coverage throughout the day with the turn up set to begin at 2pm.

The game, a tradition in the town for hundreds of years, will end today at 10pm unless a goal is scored after 5.30pm.
