DNA found that could link offender to rape and attempted murder

Detectives have revealed they have DNA in connection with the rape and attempted murder of a woman in Ilkeston.

Derbyshire Police said that in the early hours of Sunday, November 26, a woman was walking along Queens Avenue after a night out, when she was approached by a man.

He grabbed hold of her, strangled her, and then raped her. The incident is being treated as attempted murder.

Officers investigating the crime have now revealed that they have the offender's DNA, and are able to eliminate people from their enquiries.

They have also released images of people who were in the area around the time of the attack who they would like to speak to.

A £10,000 reward has been offered by the independent charity Crimestoppers. The reward will be available to anyone that provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.

DCI Gareth Meadows, who is leading the investigation, said: "The DNA will help to exclude people from our enquiries, therefore if you are suspicious of a friend, associate, neighbour or family member please contact our team.

"We have also released pictures of people who were in the area that we would like to speak to in connection with our enquiries.

"We would also like to speak to anyone that was on Trentbarton, the 2 bus from Nottingham to Ilkeston that morning. The bus left Nottingham just after 3.15am and arrived in Ilkeston, Nottingham Road, at 3.40am.
