A driver has been arrested after reversing 'at speed' into oncoming traffic on the M1 this morning.
The car hit the safety barrier and flipped onto its roof.
Police said the motorist had tried to run away, but was arrested shortly afterwards.
The Leicester Mercury reports police saying the driver had minor injuries adding: “They’re lucky not to have been more seriously injured.”
It happened on the M1 southbound near junction 23a before 7am today.
Officers from the East Midlands Operational Support Service Roads and Armed Policing Team, Leicestershire, were involved in the operation.
@EMOpSS RAPT tweeted: “A vehicle reversing at speed towards oncoming motorway traffic flipped onto its roof after mounting the safety barrier - the driver made off but was detained and arrested shortly afterwards.

Just after 7am, Leicestershire Police posted on their Facebook page: “Police are currently dealing with an incident on the M1, Southbound, at Junction 23a, towards A42. Please try and avoid the area and use other routes.”
