A Nottinghamshire road is blocked after a lorry hit a bridge.

Traffic is queueing in Melton Road, Tollerton, after the incident was reported at 12.05pm today (February 15).

Nottinghamshire Police said "all lanes inbound are currently closed".

A police spokeswoman said: “It happened on Melton Road in Tollerton at around 12.05pm. The road is blocked towards Nottingham. All lanes inbound are closed.”

Traffic monitoring site Inrix is reporting that the A606 is closed.

It states: "Melton Road in both directions closed, queueing traffic due to bridge struck by vehicle between Tollerton Lane and A52 / Flawforth Lane (Wheatcroft Island)."

Jane Coomes, 52, a hairdresser and Cotgrave resident, drove past it shortly after the incident, and said: “It is terrible. The lorry hit the bridge.

“It has torn the whole roof off the top of the lorry and it is just lying on the road, and so is the sign.

“There is debris all over the place.

“It could have been horrific if there was a car on the other side.

“One lane was blocked heading towards West Bridgford but cars from the other direction can get past.”
