Construction charity Mates in Mind held an awards ceremony to recognise positive action improving mental health in the industry.

Mates in Mind is a construction charity that encourages and celebrates efforts to improve mental health in the construction industry. The sector has the highest number of days lost due to mental health compared to any other industry and the ceremony awarded individuals and organisations who had made it easier for those who may be suffering from any workplace issues.

The charity’s 2019 Impact Award ceremony was held on 5 April alongside the British Safety Council’s Safety Gala Dinner in London. In total there were four winners and several highly commended nominees.

James Rudoni, Managing Director of Mates at Mind said: “At Mates in Mind, we believe that the value of being able to support starting a conversation at work can never be underestimated.”

“We also believe that this should be seen as part of a long-lasting transformation of workplace mental health, through which organisations can go beyond tackling a crisis of mental ill-health and act to prevent it in the first instance. As a result, we believe addressing mental health in the workplace is underpinned by both a strong moral as well as business case.”

The winners on the night were Seddon Construction Limited in the large category, Artelia UK in SMEs, and the individual champions were Richard Carrington from Williams Southern Ltd and David White from Galliford Try. Commendees included Network Rail, Tideway, Chevron Traffic Management, and RSE Building Services.
