Glowing lanterns were lit in memory of loved ones at an annual walk which raised more than £11,000 for a hospice.

Now in its third year, the St Richard’s Hospice Lantern Walk took place on Saturday, February 8 at the National Trust’s Croome, near Worcester.

The evening saw more than 450 guests walk a 1.5-mile route through the picturesque grounds of the historic house.

Kelly Johns, Hospice Fundraiser, said: “We were delighted to welcome all our guests along to enjoy a magical, moving evening in a beautiful location.

“This event is not only a great chance to experience Croome lit up against the night sky – it offers people a special way to remember loved ones.

“We are thrilled to have raised so much to support our hospice care and would like to thank everyone who helped to make this event such a success.”

Participants received a lantern with LED candle to carry on the walk, while areas along the route were lit-up.

During the walk, guests were invited to write messages and leave photos remembering their loved ones.

Croome’s on-site church was also available for those who wished to have some quiet time and light a candle in memory of someone special.

The Lantern Walk was sponsored by E Hill and Son.

St Richard’s Hospice cares for adults with a serious progressive illness, improving their quality of life from diagnosis, during treatment and to their last days. It also supports their loved ones.

Each year the hospice team supports more than 3,400 patients, family members and bereaved people in Worcestershire.

St Richard’s is an independent charity and relies on donations and gifts in Wills for the majority of its income with 22% funded by the NHS.

The hospice is also raising funds for the Build 2020 Appeal and is part way through developing a bigger hospice, enabling more patients and families to be cared for in Worcestershire. The total cost for expanding and redeveloping the existing building in Wildwood Drive, Worcester, is £5.3m.
