Derby County captain Wayne Rooney is set to star in a documentary about his extensive football career.

It is going to be produced by Lorton Entertainment, the firm behind documentaries about Steven Gerrard and Diego Maradona.

'Make Us Dream' and 'Maradona' chronicled the careers of both players on and off the pitch.

According to website Deadline, production has already started on the documentary.

Rooney is England's record goalscorer and spent 13 years at Manchester United, winning five Premier League titles, one FA Cup and the Champions League.

He joined the club officially in January, arriving from D.C. United in the United States.

"I'm excited to be the subject of this documentary," Rooney said.

"This is a film that looks in detail at my journey: the highs, the lows, the beautiful game, finally I have the opportunity to show the person I really am."

Rooney made 120 appearances for England, scoring 53 goals.

For United, he netted 253 times to become their record goalscorer.
