Spondon Post Office is to finally reopen in a new location on Monday - almost two years after it was rocked by an explosion.

The Chapel Street branch has been closed since an attack on the ATM at the premises in October, 2018.

It was set to reopen back in March within the Premier convenience store, located close to the former branch in the parade of shops on Chapel Side.

But then the coronavirus pandemic hit the UK and forced the reopening date to be pushed back further.

Now, Post Office bosses have confirmed a full-time branch will open within the Premier store on Monday, June 29 at 1pm.

The service will be provided from an open-plan counter alongside the retail counter during the opening hours of the convenience store.

A spokeswoman for the Post Office said: "We are working hard to restore a full-time Post Office to Spondon on Monday, June 29 at 1pm.

"This will be the first branch involved in a trial for introducing a new way of our Post Office trainers to remotely provide the necessary training for our new Postmaster and his staff whilst following social distancing guidelines, so we would ask for your ongoing support should we experience any technical issues on the opening day.

"We sincerely thank the Postmaster and the community for their patience with the delay caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Our new Postmaster had already undergone classroom training and we had been very close to opening this branch just before lockdown. Unfortunately one of our trainers had coronavirus symptoms and was unable to attend the branch to provide in-branch training.

"We thank the Postmaster for Linton for providing a mobile service to Spondon until we were able to reopen this new branch at the Premier Store."

While the Spondon branch has been closed, a mobile Post Office visited the Spondon Village Hall car park, in Sitwell Street, twice a week.

The opening hours of the new branch will be Monday to Saturday from 8am until 10pm, and Sunday from 10am until 8pm.
