Derby County fans have raised more than £4,500 in less than 24 hours for a flag to show their support for Andre Wisdom, who is recovering in hospital after being stabbed in an "unprovoked assault and robbery" in a street in Liverpool at the weekend.
The 27-year-old defender is recovering in hospital. He is in a stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
He could be released from hospital in two or three days.
Fans on social media sent their best wishes to Wisdom and a 'Flag for Andre' fundraiser was set up.
The aim was to raise £2,500, but that target has been smashed.
The figure at the time of writing stood at £4,589.
Those who have organised the fund-raiser have spoken to Wisdom's brother, and the extra money after the flagged has been purchased will be split between @DeafDerbyFC, the Derby Deaf Football Club, and http://liverpoolhomlessfootballclub.com
The aim is to have the flag on show for the home game against Nottingham Forest at the weekend.
It is not clear yet how many of Derby's remaining seven league fixtures Wisdom will miss as the team pushes for a place in the play-offs.
