Tom Huddlestone has not signed an extension to his contract and so is not eligible to play for the remainder of Derby County's season.
The 33-year-old midfielder's deal has expired and he is now a free agent and looks set to leave the club.
Contract discussions between the club and the player have been amicable, it is understood, and Huddlestone could continue to train with Derby.
NEIL'S DERBY VIEW
Derby County would expect to be up challenging for a top-six finish, says Preston North End boss Alex Neil.
The Rams take on North End at Deepdale tomorrow as the race for play-off places hots up.
The two teams are locked on 57 points with seven games left to play and sit just outside the top six.
Derby have won both of their matches since the Championship campaign restarted, Preston have collected only one point from six.

UPDATE ON WISDOM
Derby County CEO Stephen Pearce has provided an update on Andre Wisdom, who was the victim of a knife attack at the weekend.
Wisdom is recovering after being stabbed in an "unprovoked assault and robbery" in a street in Liverpool in the early hours of Sunday morning.
He was assaulted as he made his way back to his car after visiting relatives.
PUNDIT'S SCORE PREDICTION
Derby County take their 100% record since the Championship restart to Deepdale tomorrow night.
The Rams face Preston North End in a crucial clash in the race for the play-offs.
Derby have beaten Millwall and Reading in their last two matches. Phillip Cocu's team has won its last four league games having seen off Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers before lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Preston have taken only one point from the last six. They drew at Luton and lost at home to Cardiff City last time out.
WHO REPLACES LAWRENCE?
Tom Lawrence's red card against Reading has dealt manager Phillip Cocu a selection headache ahead of Derby County's crucial clash against Preston North End at Deepdale.
Lawrence's absence for three matches due to suspension means Cocu has to find a replacement on the left of his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation as Derby look to maintain their late surge to reach the Championship play-offs.
