Another 67 coronavirus cases have been confirmed across the city and county in the last 24 hours.

Leicester has seen the biggest increase - 34 - but Oadby and Wigston’s cumulative total has shot up by 16 since yesterday.

Figures for the county, broken down into district and borough areas, show Harborough added six cases to its running total and Charnwood and Hinckley and Bosworth recorded four new cases in the past 24 hours.

Two new cases were found in North West Leicestershire and Melton added one new case.

Blaby was the only area not to see an increase in new cases.

The figures updated at 4pm on Tuesday, September 8, are:

  • Leicester – 5,919 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 1,671
  • Blaby – 612 total cases - Rate per 100,000 population: 602
  • Charnwood - 945 total cases - Rate per 100,000 population: 508
  • Harborough – 452 total cases -. Rate per 100,000 population: 481
  • Hinckley and Bosworth – 609 total cases - Rate per 100,000 population: 538
  • Melton – 235 total cases - Rate per 100,000 population: 458
  • North West Leicestershire – 366 total cases - Rate per 100,000 population: 353
  • Oadby and Wigston – 576 total cases - Rate per 100,000 population: 1,010

More schools in the county and city have today sent emails advising parents that children in some classes need to self-isolate after cases have been confirmed.

Leicester’s top education boss has said the number of cases of coronavirus in city schools has been very small given the ‘big business’ of getting 57,000 students back into the classroom for the new term.

Meanwhile the city’s seven-day infection rate has almost doubled since a week ago. The rate now stands at 42.8 cases per 100,000 people.

The figures updated at 4.30pm on Monday September 7, were:

  • Leicester – 5,885 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 1,661
  • Blaby – 612 total cases - Rate per 100,000 population: 602
  • Charnwood - 941 total cases - Rate per 100,000 population: 506
  • Harborough – 446 total cases -. Rate per 100,000 population: 475
  • Hinckley and Bosworth – 605 total cases - Rate per 100,000 population: 534
  • Melton – 234 total cases - Rate per 100,000 population: 457
  • North West Leicestershire – 364 total cases - Rate per 100,000 population: 351
  • Oadby and Wigston – 560 total cases - Rate per 100,000 population: 982
