A student at a Leicestershire secondary school has tested positive for coronavirus.
Yesterday parents and carers of pupils at Woodbrook Vale School in Loughborough were told half of the Year Eight group had been sent home as a precautionary measure after a single pupil was confirmed to have the virus.
Head teacher of the 800-pupil school Rachael Fraser wrote to parents to thank them for keeping ‘calm and philosophical’ but warned them she expected she would be sending similar messages in the future.

Woodbrook Vale has joined a list of around a dozen schools in the city and county that have reported single cases of the virus among staff or pupils.
Public health officials and education bosses in the city and county have said that the number of confirmed cases in schools remains small given than tens of thousands of children and staff who have now returned to classes for the autumn term.
They have sought to reassure parents that the measures taken to prepare schools and make them Covid-secure have been working and the bubble system has allowed them to restrict contact between affected groups of pupils.
