Live: 4 miles of queues on M1 following crash

Traffic has been stopped on the M1 motorway after a multi-vehicle crash.

The incident has happened on the southbound carriageway, between junction 21a and junction 21 (Leicester).

Pictures from traffic cameras show the traffic at a standstill.

A Tweet from Highways England East Midlands read: "Please expect long delays in the area and consider planning an alternate route when travelling."

A further Tweet from the highways agency added: "There are 40 minute delays on the approach to this M1 incident above usual journey times spanning 4 miles back towards J22. Average speeds on approach to the incident are less than 10 mph."
