Kayak heroes save woman in river clinging to tree with water up to her neck

Two hero canoeists saved the life of a woman they spotted desperately holding on to a tree as a fast-flowing current threatened to pull her under.

Mike Turner, 47, and Chris Scholes, 48, were canoeing along the River Trent last near Catton Hall when they found themselves at the centre of a brave rescue which saw them pull a woman from the freezing water.

They were traveling along the River Trent in a two-man canoe from Alrewas to Burton, just past Catton Hall.

As they went around a corner, they saw what they thought was a woman in the water.

And when they got closer, they saw her clinging to the tree, with the water
