Police have arrested a driver on suspicion of money laundering after they found hundreds of thousands of pounds in cash in a Volkswagen being driven through Derbyshire.

Officers from Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit say they pulled a car over at Junction 30, on the M1, near Chesterfield.

They said that they discovered approximately £400,000 in cash after having received information about a suspect vehicle in the area.

They posted information about discovering the cash mountain on Twitter.

They said: "M1. Junction 30. Intelligence led stop on this Volkswagen.

"Approximately £400,000 in cash on board. Driver arrested for money laundering. #Crime#RPU."
