Canal-side homes plan in flood-hit Derbyshire village set for refusal

Plans for 25 canal-side homes in a flood-hit Derbyshire village, opposite a development site rejected due to flood risk, are set to be refused.

The application, from retailer Central England Cooperative, would see the homes built off Castle Way and next to the Trent and Mersey Canal in Willington.

Of the 25 homes, eight would be affordable housing.

South Derbyshire District Council planning officers have recommended that the plans are refused at a meeting on Tuesday, September 22.

They say the development would cause harm to the Trent and Mersey Canal Conservation Area and the wider landscape.
