A council has used emergency coronavirus laws to ban a controversial festival planned for a Derbyshire village.

The "Vegan Camp Out" planning to bring 1,000 people to Riddings has been served a prohibition notice by Derbyshire County Council.

The notice - which has been served on the event organiser, the company and the owner of the campsite venue – will ensure that the festival cannot lawfully take place.

The council feared the event posed a significant health risk to Derbyshire residents and those attending.

Applications for a temporary event and the selling of alcohol were withdrawn from Amber Valley Borough Council
