Derby and Burton’s hospitals have seen a “big increase” in the number of parents bringing their children to A&E asking for a Covid-19 test.
Hospital A&E departments around the country have reported a spike in attendances from people seeking Covid-19 tests, having been unable to attend a testing site or to be sent a home testing kit.
This includes in the hotspot area of Bolton.
Residents across Derbyshire and Derby have been hit by issues linked to the government’s testing regime.
A lack of laboratory capacity is said to be at the centre of the issue, with people seeking Covid-19 tests being directed dozens or hundreds of miles away to the “nearest” available facility.
