Residents unhappy over plans to demolish historic cottage for affordable housing

There are objections to plans to demolish a historic cottage to make way for a modern housing development in Bramcote.

Broxtowe Borough Council is proposing to knock down Fishpond Cottage, at 51 Ilkeston Lane, in order to build some affordable housing.

The Victorian era cottage dates back to the 1800's, but the council say it requires major refurbishment and is in a state of disrepair. The authority says it cannot justify the "substantial financial investment" required to uphold the site.

Under the plans, seven three-bed and two one-bed homes would be built in its place.

But some Bramcote residents are unhappy ay the prospect of the cottage, which has been in the village for so
