Shock and disappointment for locals as Oadby and Wigston coronavirus spike sees borough second only to Bolton for infections

Oadby and Wigston has become the second worst coronavirus hotspot in the UK, and people living there are worried and disappointed.

It is now possible new restrictions will be introduced in the borough after it emerged yesterday the number of people infected with Covid-19 was equivalent to 115 per 100,000.

That compares to the overall UK rate of 32.8 per 100,000 and ranks the Leicestershire borough worse than everywhere except for Bolton. The area's MP Neil O'Brien today said a tightening was 'highly likely'.

Anne Bailey, 80, was worried about catching the disease, particularly if the winter led to a big increase in cases, as some people are expecting.
