Health Secretary Matt Hancock has announced new lockdown measures in the North East in a statement to the House of Commons.
The current plan is for measures to come into force just after midnight on Friday morning (September 18) in Northumberland, North Tyneside, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Gateshead, South Tyneside, Sunderland and County Durham.
The restrictions include a ban on socialising with anyone outside your household, and a 10pm curfew is also due to be imposed on pubs, restaurants and other licensed premises.
Experts from SAGE have warned that Prime Minister Boris Johnson could order a two-week national lockdown in response to the rise across the UK.
