Mystery surrounds drowning of likeable young man in Derbyshire canal

The circumstances of how a "talented and sensitive" young man drowned in a Derbyshire canal remain unclear 18 months on, an inquest has heard.

Thomas Boyle died in March 2019 when emergency services recovered his body from the Erewash Canal alongside Derby Road in Long Eaton.

The 37-year-old's body was initially discovered in the water by a member of the public on the morning of Saturday, March 16, and was later formerly identified by his parents after police officers located his provisional driving licence and his library card in his belongings.

After his death, his heartbroken family paid tribute to him.
