A cordon was placed around some allotments in part of Nottingham after reports of a suspected artillery shells were found.

Officers from Nottinghamshire Police were called at around 1.55pm yesterday (October 11) to the allotments in Clifton.

It was reported two suspected artillery shells were found near the site in Summerwood Lane, Clifton.

A spokeswoman for the force confirmed a cordon was put in place and specialists assessed the objects.

These were found to be fragments of historic shells and not 'viable explosive devices'.

It comes after a suspected Second World War shell was found in Newark last week.
