A Leicestershire secondary school has sent home its Year 8 pupils after a coronavirus case was confirmed.

Parents and carers of children at Rawlins Community College, in Quorn, received a letter today informing them a member of the school community had tested positive for Covid-19.

Clare Derby, principal of the 1,500-pupil school in Loughborough Road, did not specify in the letter whether it was a child or staff member who had become infected.

She said in her letter: “We have been made aware of a member of our school community who has tested positive for Covid-19.

“As you will be aware, we have done remarkably well in comparison to a number of other schools locally.
