Skating returns to Nottingham's Motorpoint Arena - but the ice is blue

The ice rink at Nottingham's Motorpoint Arena will be reopening for the first time in nearly seven months since the start of lockdown.

But it's taken on a colourful hue after being painted blue to recognise the extraordinary efforts by NHS workers during the coronavirus crisis.

In a UK first, the blue ice will also bear the message 'Thank You NHS #ThankYouSocialCare' inside a giant rainbow heart.

The National Ice Centre on the other side of the building has been open since September 8 but the arena's ice rink will be open to the public for skating from Friday, October 16.
