Having taken over at Nottingham Forest just over a week ago Chris Hughton was presented with the conundrum of using the carrot or the stick.
Should he go in and push players hard from day one to sharpen minds and bodies after months of coming up short? Or should he be more gentle and try to raise spirits?
Hughton insists morale has not been an issue, but he recognises players do need to impress with limited time for the new boss to make decisions which could influence the direction of their careers.
