Derby fraudster begs with judge to 'please let me go home'

A Derby fraudster who stole tens of thousands of pounds from her woman victim frantically begged a judge to be allowed to go home.

Shirley Smith repeatedly asked Judge Shaun Smith QC “can I go home now?” after pleading guilty to one count of fraud when she appeared at Derby Crown Court.

Supported by her husband for the short hearing, the 57-year-old, of Sinfin, said she had not eaten for two days and that she wanted to go to her address because she was hungry.

Smith, of Osprey Close, admitted to taking more than £30,000 from the victim between November 2015 and June 2018.
