An historic former library building in a Derbyshire town will go up for auction later this month.

Believed to have been built in the 1870s, the stone-built property in Bridge Street, Belper, is being sold by Derbyshire County Council.

The local authority is selling the building following the opening of a new £1.7 million library in Derwent Street, in August.

The extensive property spans four floors, including a basement, and sits on a large plot with a car park and a sizeable green space, which backs onto playing fields.

It will go under the hammer with SDL Auctions on Friday, October 30, with a guide price of £300,000.
