The mammoth task of installing this year's Christmas lights in Leicester begins today.
Contractors working for Leicester City Council will begin putting up the decorations - consisting of 16,000 lamps - in the city's main shopping streets.
A spokesperson for the city council said the authority had spent more than £38,000 this year upgrading the stock of decorations and replacing worn-out fixture and fittings.
The work means that Horsefair Street and Humberstone Gate will have a new look this year.
In Green Dragon Square, at Leicester Market, illuminated garlands will be strung between the square’s lamp-columns, while the trees in the square will be lit up with pea-lights.
