Derby County were desperate to add to their striking options during the summer transfer window.
The sale of Chris Martin coupled with injury to Martyn Waghorn has left the Rams short of options in the forward department. Club captain Wayne Rooney has been deputising in the role for the last two games, with him grabbing the winning goal against Norwich before the international break.
However, that solution is far from ideal, with the former England man more comfortable operating in a deeper role on the pitch.
Derby were linked with a number of strikers during the transfer window including Serdar Dursun and West Bromwich Albion’s Charlie Austin, although a move for the duo never materialised.
