Frustration as team's playing field 'ripped to pieces' by vandals

A playing field used by a baseball team in Clifton has been 'ripped to pieces' - with the vandalism described by a coach as an 'ignorant attempt at self gratification'.

Weeks of hard work went into resurfacing the pitch last year and bringing it up to standard for the Clifton Pirates to use at the Clifton Playing Fields, off Farnborough Road.

Junior sessions have also been held for children.

But now the club face having to "completely start again" after the grass was torn up by a bike.

Lee Wallis, 43, a coach and player, said it even appeared that the culprit had "been trying to do wheel spins".
